Practitioner

Jo Shearer:

Bachelor of Health Science (Occupational Therapy)

Bachelor of Education (Dip Tching Primary)

Personal Training Certificate

I am an occupational therapist, personal trainer and emotional release therapist. I combine this skillset with my passion for helping people reconnect their mind and body.

I have specialist skills in:

  • Occupational Therapy

Based in Wanaka, I spend as much time as I can enjoying the outdoors, hiking, biking, and skiing, often with family and friends.

Wellbeing, fitness and looking after myself has always been a core part of my life. Yes I admit I was part of the 80’s fluro wearing aerobics attendees! Jazzergetics classes in my last year of school continued into university where a friend convinced me to start running and I never looked back. While spending several years overseas I taught Les Mills and spinning classes around full time work and on returning to New Zealand added a Personal Training qualification. Late in my OE I was introduced to Yoga and started attending classes regularly, even convincing my now husband to spend 6 weeks in India on our way home, a full immersion into yoga!

Back home in NZ we chose to live in Wānaka, a picturesque small town in the South Island, where we have enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle and bringing up our 2 girls. Work-wise I have applied my occupational therapy skills across a wide range of ACC programs including concussion, vocational and pain management and support.

My desire to apply my wide range of skills in helping people in a unique way has led to developing Prevention on Point.

Practitioner

Irenie Bouman-Watkins:

Fitness Industry Training Certification, Diploma in Applied Recreation

"Motivate, Educate & Inspire"

 I have specialist skills in:

·     Rehabilitative exercises

·     Postural strengthening and body alignment

·     Core conditioning

·     Muscle tone and strength building

·     Post natal exercise

·     Weight management and cardiovascular fitness

I have an extensive knowledge base developed over several years working with clients with a variety of needs, particularly in a rehabilitative setting and with a senior age group. I aim to educate people on how to get the most out of their training sessions, correcting techniques and bringing an awareness to posture.

I grew up in Dunedin and was involved in competitive running, soccer and classical ballet. Exercise has always been an essential part of my life and I love to share my passion for fitness.

I help my clients plan, be time efficient and enjoy their exercise, keeping them fit, mobile and functionally strong so they can participate in the many leisure activities Wanaka has to offer.

In addition to personal training I am a talented gardener and artist, fitting in my commitments around parenting three children.

Our Approach

We have a compassionate, empathetic approach while working. In appropriate situations, fun and laughter are injected into sessions.

Who comes for treatments:

  • It might be that you are looking for an efficient, safe way to maintain mobility, strength and recover faster from injuries.

  • It might be that the typical gym environment doesn't suit you.

  • People who are experiencing stress, uncertainty, anxiety, low moods, brain fog, poor sleep, autoimmune disorders, disease and injury may seek help. All treatments can be used as a preventative approach to maintain overall health and wellbeing.

  • Perhaps you have completed your ACC and/or physio program but you still don’t feel back to yourself.
